Unit lifecycle

An instance needs a platform address, a one-time linking key and identity and transport configuration appropriate to its environment. An ASP.NET Core or Node.js process running by itself does not mean the unit is already participating in the platform.

From startup to platform participation

The .NET SDK generates instance keys and uses LinkKey during the first enrollment. The key is single-use. Preserve identity across restarts; losing its store requires a new linking process performed by an authorized operator.

.NET SDK configuration

Settings belong in the SeeraOS:Unit section. The environment operator supplies their values.

SettingPurpose
CoreAddressConnects to ControlPlane.
LinkKeyInitial enrollment. Do not publish its value.
IdentityFilePathInstance identity store. Preserve it across restarts.
DataPlaneBaseUrlAddress advertised by the unit when directly reachable.
DataPlaneAppIdDapr application identifier.
AuthProfiles for verifying caller identity.

The SDK guide shows host service registration. Agree on the exact authentication profiles and sidecar requirements for the selected version set. Do not treat an example issuer address as configuration for your own deployment.

Manifest and domain configuration

The manifest declares unit configuration fields. In Notes, greeting is a required NonSensitive field of type string. The IUnitConfigurationHandler handler receives configuration after the SDK handles platform mechanisms and decides whether the application can apply it.

Domain configuration and SDK connection settings are separate concerns. Keep provider secrets, LinkKey and identity files out of repositories and public tutorials.

Operations and events

An operation handles a request to perform a capability. In Notes, it is note.create. An event reports something that has happened: note.created in the exposition, and seeraos.notes.note.created.v1 as the logical type published by the example.

REST and RPC handle requests and responses. Command is a directed one-way message; Event is a message for subscribers. The .NET SDK handles these surfaces according to the contract and environment configuration. They are distinct paths.

Instance state

An instance repeats its current state report at the ControlPlane interval. Missing reports after a grace period help detect an unreachable instance. Platform reporting does not replace testing whether your business operation works.

Before startup, agree on component versions, tenant, operator and caller permissions, Auth profiles, transport addresses, identity storage and the expected result of a test operation. The full Notes tutorial runtime has not yet been tested.
